Those at Risk

  • People are more at risk at developing diabetes if they:

    • Have a parent, brother, or sister with diabetes
    • Gave birth to a baby who weighed more than 9 pounds
    • Are seriously overweight for their age
    • Get little or no exercise daily
  • Warning Signs:
    • Excessive Thirst (also known as polydipsia)
    • Excessive Urination/constantly going to the bathroom (also known as Polyuria)
    • Weight Loss
  • Other signs or symptoms that may be present:
    • Yeast Infections
    • Dehydration (Even though excessive thirst and excessive drinking occurs)
    • Vomiting
    • Lethargy
    • Confusion
    • Flu-like symptoms
    • Bedwetting
    • Fruity odor to the breath
